Accessibility
Last updated 19/10/2026
We want everyone to be able to use SubbieChase — builders, their office teams, and the subcontractors who send in their documents — including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, zoom, or high-contrast settings.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard used across Australia.
What we do
- Every change to SubbieChase is checked automatically against WCAG 2.1 A and AA before it goes live — the app itself, the page subcontractors upload on, and these public pages.
- Sign-up and the subcontractor upload page are tested to work with a keyboard alone.
- Text and controls are checked for colour contrast, and every form field and button has a label.
- Status is never shown by colour alone: expired, expiring and current documents also have their own shape and words.
- There's a “Skip to main content” link at the top of every page.
- Every main page is checked to fit a phone-width screen without sideways scrolling, which also helps when the page is zoomed in.
What isn't perfect yet
- The compliance report PDF is laid out for printing and sharing; a screen reader may not read its tables in the right order. Everything in it is also on the screen in SubbieChase.
- Documents uploaded by builders and subcontractors (certificates, licences, SWMS) are their own files, so we can't make them accessible — but the details recorded from them are shown as ordinary text.
